Since giving birth to my daughter, Bowie, I have been lucky enough to undertake the Postnatal Recovery Program with Tracy using Chinese Herbal Mud and the use of Bioelectric Meridian Massage.
Here we break down my postnatal recovery program and treatment received for various conditions.
1. Varicose veins
During my pregnancy, I suffered numerous veins on my legs. Both spider veins and varicose veins were present. While some are superficial others were extremely painful and hot, especially after standing for long periods of time. I found this challenging to exercise during pregnancy, and feel that standing in my workplace for long periods of time impacted the veins. For future pregnancies, I understand that I will be able to use the bioelectric massage technique to ensure there are no blockages in my hips, which will help to prevent further veins.
To begin treatment after giving birth, I used the Chinese Herbal Mud on the veins to aid in detoxification and reduce water retention. Bioelectric Meridian Massage was also used to increase circulation, drain lymphatics and to clear blockages.
There have been noticeable changes to the veins on my legs, they are no longer painful and hot. Visually, the veins are far less noticeable. I will continue the use of Bioelectric Massage after my partner completes the program with Tracy and I can continue to treat at home.
2. Lymphatic drainage
Lymphatic drainage for both legs, as stated above, both Herbal Mud and Bioelectric Massage were used to drain lymphatics from my legs. I presented with a lot of swelling in both legs during and after pregnancy. During the postnatal period, I opted for gentle stretching and plenty of rest. I did not try to exert myself with exercise during this period – instead, I chose to rest and nourish myself with healthy food. Gentle walks and stretching were my only forms of exercise. As a result, there was some fluid retention in my legs. The combination of Herbal Mud and Bioelectric Massage worked wonders to move the fluid and increase circulation.
3. Lower back
From endless hours of breastfeeding, nursing, rocking, changing bub combined with a weakened core, I found my lower back to be very painful. There was noticeable swelling around my sacrum which Tracy documented through photos. Tracy used Meridian Massage in this area, which made a huge difference. Visually, when looking in the mirror I could see a huge difference in my posture, I was standing straight and looked and felt slimmer. The pain had alleviated with the treatment, and blockages were no longer present. The swelling had reduced drastically.
4. Reproductive system reactivation
Tracy also used a gentle technique with the Bioelectric Massage to reactivate my reproductive system. She worked on my pelvic floor to help strengthen. This was crucial to aiding in preventing incontinence and prolapse, as well as returning to exercise.
5. Mastitis (left breast)
Tracy used Bioelectric Massage to treat the onset of mastitis. Early in postpartum, I noticed nodules in my left breast. I had some pain and noticed that my breast felt hot to touch. My daughter also favoured the right side, which indicates a small sign of infection. After undergoing Bioelectric massage with Tracy, I noticed an incredible difference. My breast tissue felt soft, it was no longer hot to touch, and the pain had diminished. I was relieved as I did not wish to take antibiotics whilst breastfeeding. Milk flow had improved and my daughter began feeding on this side again.
6. Shoulders
As mentioned above, my posture has suffered greatly through feeding, nursing, rocking etc combined with a lack of core strength. My shoulders were noticeably hunched over because of this. My shoulder muscles had lengthened, and pectoral muscles had shortened. The Bioelectric Massage worked wonders to relieve tension and improve posture. This also alleviated headaches associated with tightness in this area. Visually my posture had improved, and I no longer suffered pain in this area.
7. Spine mobilisation
The Bioelectric Massage was also used to mobilise the spine to calm the nervous system. This has resulted in improved sleep, reduced stress and improved mental wellness.
The first month after giving birth should be spent resting and recovering. It is time to bond with your newborn. I would highly recommend creating a strong support system and investing in postnatal care. The Postnatal Recovery Treatment is an excellent addition to your postnatal support both physically and mentally. This program helps to restore qi/ energy and blood, which becomes depleted during the delivery process. This program assists in improving vitality so that you are able to better care for your newborn. Based on scientific research and traditional wisdom, I would highly recommend this program.
