How Bioelectric Meridian Therapy helps the body to self-heal

By Greg Murphy (JSR Massage Clinic)
The intended purpose of Bioelectric Meridian Therapy (BMT) is to promote and assist the body’s mechanism to self-heal through cell health.
It is hypothesised that Bioelectric Meridian Therapy stimulates the cellular production of ATP to at least an anaerobic level. Restoring the positive and negative balance charges in the cell, enables it to perform its natural function.
Our body is energy
We are continually recharging our cellular energy in order to create a sustainable whole-of-body healthy environment. We need our body to regenerate and maintain healthy cells to implement effective communication pathways within the body’s complex systems.
When energy is used, ATP converts to ADP (Adenosine Diphosphate) – a chemical that can then be recharged through Krebs Cycle to become ATP again.
When cells become distressed from an excessive workload beyond functional capacity, or insufficient resources are available due to Mitochondrial Dysfunction, disease, or trauma; the cell, muscle or body may not be able to recover organically.
Muscle and cell fatigue in self-healing
Muscle cells can become chronically fatigued. Normal metabolic waste can accumulate and ATP levels can become non-functional. Muscles present as stiff and shortened, showing poor load tolerance, reduced ROM and/or myofascial dysfunction and pain.
Sometimes our cellular resources become so chronically strained over time or through excessive fatigue that we lose the ability to self-recharge, and our normal recovery protocols becomes ineffective. In this instance, outside assistance may be required.
Bioelectric Meridian Therapy supports self-healing through cell recovery
ABMMA’s Bioelectric Meridian Therapy (BMT) may offer the assistance needed to support the body to recover quicker. The purpose of BMT is to promote the body’s self-healing mechanism.
BMT has the potential to energise cells through microcurrent transfer, promoting faster recovery and enhancing the removal of cellular waste from the body.
BMT is potentially able to assist the transfer of electrons in the Krebs Cycle which generate ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) in mitochondria.
If an increased level of ATP can be generated within a fatigued muscle cell, it may allow contracted muscles to relax and restore the transfer of nutrients and healing at a cellular level which enables faster tissue recovery.

It may also promote an increase in proprioceptive and/or neural connectivity. This supports communication within the systems and allows the body to go back to its more favourable state of homeostasis.
Bioelectric Meridian Therapy may have the potential to increase cellular ATP levels. This would therefore provide energy for healing but it is highly unlikely for this outcome to be achieved through a single treatment.

Depending on the individual, their overall health status and workload, treatments may need to be repeated and multiple treatments may be required – either provided by a therapist or utilising self-treatment units if suitable.
