What is prostate cancer?
Prostate cancer occurs when cells in a man’s prostate gland grow in an unusual way to form an abnormal growth called a tumour. The prostate, normally a golf ball-sized gland that sits below the bladder, helps produce the fluid in semen. There are different kinds of prostate cancer. While most grow slowly and cause no symptoms for many years, some spread aggressively and can cause serious illness and death.
As men age, the prostate can also grow for other reasons, such as prostatitis (inflammation of the gland) or benign prostatic hypertrophy. These conditions are common in older men.

Prostate Surgery – Open Cut 2009
Double Hernia – 2 Open cuts either side of central scar from Prostate surgery 2021
How have the surgeries affected his life?
Both of these surgeries had a profound effect and influence on my life. Whilst both surgeries were very successful and done well, they did alter aspects of my life quite dramatically.
Re Prostate – with the removal of the Prostate many things change for a man. Apart from the body functions that now have only the pelvic floor muscles to prevent leakage – which requires constant, and I do mean constant, use of pelvic floor muscle exercises to prevent or really minimise leakages as there is I doubt 100% possibility of this as sudden moments of exertion can catch you out, there is also the mental side of things re some loss of sexual activity and ability to perform at previous levels. This for a man can be quite devastating and needs acceptance as the new norm.
Re Double Hernia – this came as a surprise and was most definitely unexpected. As I was a regular tennis player the surgery meant that this activity was curtailed for many months until I healed sufficiently to go back onto the court. The mental side here was the fear that pushing myself too hard – going for a difficult shot, running for a drop shot – would result in a tear of the hernia repair. It is still in the back of my mind when playing or lifting any reasonably heavy objects.
How has the Modality helped? What benefits is he getting out of it? How has it changed his life?
“My first sessions with Tracy were focussing on helping the Prostate issues. This was done by strengthening the pelvic floor muscles and balancing the left and right hand sides. Tracy then worked on the scar tissue – the main central one from the prostate surgery – and did an amazing job of softening the scar tissue that had been quite hard and firm. There was a noticeable softening of the scar itself and loosening of the area around the scar.”
“The same was done with the double hernia scars and surrounding areas. Again, a noticeable softening and loosening of tightness in the left and right hand groin areas was observed.”
“I found it interesting how these benefits impacted on my mental health. Whilst my initial apprehension about placing loads and strains on my groin area had abated due to time since surgeries, I was always consciously aware of my limitations. Whilst I still have these limitations in my mind, I definitely feel more comfortable with stretching, exerting and playing sports or swimming than I did before. I feel more confident due to the healing and repair work that has been done in my surgery areas. The fact that they were so close to each other was a concern but now I feel more confident in my abilities to carry on with normal life and that makes me feel very happy indeed. Thank you, Tracy.”
