I got polio when I was a baby, 11 months old. I was given an overdosed of injections which made me unable to walk or stand. At 12 years old, my family found out I had scoliosis. The doctor said if I underwent an operation to correct my scoliosis, I had a 50-50 of dying, so my father decided not to push through but instead let me use a body brace. The body brace made me uncomfortable, it is heavy, and I can’t move easily. So, I decided to leave it in the corner to live comfortably. The doctor reminded me that if I stop using the brace, my scoliosis will eventually get severe. It will affect my lungs and hearts sooner or later. Year 2015 when I felt severe back pain and I couldn’t sleep. We found out that my scoliosis was now severe. I had 12 sessions of therapies to lessen the pain. My orthopedic doctor told me that I should undergo the operation but again, I resisted. Then, I just decided to wear the lumbar brace for me to sit up straight. But according to my doctor, this would be for the rest of my life and I should wear it all day. So, I had no choice but to comply. Year 2016 when I saw Bop Chung Facebook post on scoliosis being corrected through traditional Chinese massage with the help of Bioelectrical Massage. I asked Bop Chung to let me go to Hongkong to check my scoliosis and see if can be treated with the technique. Bop asked me to wait because of the expense.
While waiting for the right time, I spread the news regarding the technique and the machine. I promoted that in my Facebook account and my friends who are in wheelchairs and also suffer from scoliosis got interested. My wheelchair bound friends are usually sitting the whole day which eventually deforms our back and body. So, I was happy when Bop Chung informed me that ABMMA’s team will be coming to the Philippines to do the presentation. I do believe that those suffering from scoliosis will be treated in natural way by the technique and the machine though series of massage sessions might require. But at least there is hope beyond our worries not to live longer. Better try the natural way, without considering surgical operation. Then March 29, 2019 Tracy Taulier’s ABMMA team came to Tahanang Walang Hagdanan to do the demonstration. And I was lucky enough to try the technique and the machine, showing them my chest and spine xray for assessment. While I was undergoing the massage, I felt at ease and hopeful that there might be at least little improvement despite of having severe case. My legs are distorted, my ribs are squeezed and deformed, and my hips are dislocated.
Tracy was the one who patiently applied the technique with the help of Bioelectric Massage. After the session, I observed that my right leg is straightened without any tighthening of muscles or nerves at the back of my knees. Also, same with my left leg which had straightened a bit. With regards to my ribs, when I lie down I feel my right ribs less squeezed and distorted. While the bump in my left back was lessened. Because of these, I realized if the technique will be continually applied for multiple sessions, my posture will be corrected and my legs will be straightened.
So, I am hoping that ABMMA can provide an affordable training and affordable machine so that we could help my friends on wheelchair as well including upgrade the skills of blind masseurs who are passionately doing their job. As you can see, there are lots of clients and beneficiaries, but no-one is knowledgeable in this technique. Learning the technique does not require you to have a college degree but if you have willingness to learn and you have purpose to help.
Learning the technique may also provide employment for blind masseurs and friends on wheelchairs as well as family members and those who are unemployed. So, thank you ABMMA’s team for rendering free massage demonstration. We do hope you may now understand PWDs situation here in the Philippines. Your knowledge and technique are important to us, so please make it an affordable one. Thank you and may God bless for your kindness.
